Earth Live

Spent a crazy-interesting few days with 15 million Mexican free tailed bats for National Geographic’s Earth Live special. Over 20 locations around the planet had live satellite uplinks that were switched to in real time. We were at the Bracken Bat Cave outside San Antonio. Skip Hobbe helmed the camera to capture the crazy.

Lived on the Kurabesi Explorer and made our way along the coast of West Papua, searching for escaped fishing trade escapees.

Nike Air

Fell assbackwards into a fun little shoot yesterday, where Nike landed a helicopter onto Westlake High School’s football field to deliver their new line of cleats. I also got to ride in a 2012 McLaren to get some sfx of it. Wow.

Guadalupe Mountains National Park

Nothing beats working when you are ill. I had to enjoy the photos I took after the fact. Spent a couple days here toiling on a segment for a PBS documentary commemorating the 100th anniversary of the National Park system. The Fall leaves were gorgeous and the weather was kind to us.

DellWorld

Right out of the narrative frying pan, time to go corporate. DellWorld was a large event at the Austin Convention Center, our little team was tasked with creating a 6 part minidoc. Met some cool folks and got reaquainted with downtown Austin, which I recognize less and less these days.

Crunch Time

Getting the Intramural band back together, this time it’s a 6 part series, produced by Rooster Teeth. Great cast, fun crew, we knocked out 167 pages over 33 days. I had Patrick Wylie and Oksana Smetanyuk as my boom and utility. Greg Armstrong covered the boom the last two weeks.

Nubian Queen Lola

Spent a couple days via Tyson Foods, who commissioned a piece about a very recognizable woman in East Austin, Lola Stephens. While running her restaurant, she also delivers meals to the less fortunate via the ‘Cool Bus’.

Transpecos

At long last, my friends Greg Kwedar and Clint Bently finally got to pull the trigger on their passion project. Using the badlands outside of Deming, NM as a backdrop, we told the tale of three Border Patrol officers having a very bad day. Regular temps over a 100 degrees daily.
